Intensive Series at SPARK YOGA in Fairfax, VA, December 7/8

INNER HEAT - Saturday 12/7 1:30-3:30pm

This full spectrum class opens with a vinyasa element to bring warmth and mobility. We then focus on toning the deep core muscles to bring stability to standing postures and buoyancy to arm balances. Intelligent shoulder action is vital to spinal and core integrity, so let there be planks! No arm balance experience required, just be interested in how to make your body lighter on both the hands and the feet. Class will close with gentle front body openers.

NOURISHED HIPS - Sunday 12/8 12:00-1:45pm

Connection to the inner wisdom of the hips facilitates yoga postures and allows for ease in the body as you move through your day. By awakening the inner groins, back and outer hips, and hip flexors, we allow freedom and intelligence in the pelvis. We will warm the body with vinyasa and then bring awareness to the thighs and hips in standing and balance postures. Expect to feel beautiful heat in new places!

EXPANSIVE BACKBENDS - Sunday 12/8 2:00-3:45pm

We must lengthen the slinky before we bend the slinky! To explore and, eventually, come to leove backbends, we have to spend some time in them. This is possible only if there’s ease, length, and a willingness to experience the posture in an honest way, not one filled with bravado. We will activate the back body and cue the front body to lengthen and expand, encouraging the physical curiosity required to truly enjoy heart opening postures. Class closes with gentle forward folds to soothe the nervous system.

DISCUSSION AFTER!

We have to give Spark their studio back but you guys know there's not much I love more than talking yoga and its role in our lives. I'll be happy to stick around and chat somewhere in Mosaic!

RETREAT YO SELF 2020!

Yoga Retreat to Xinalani, PVR, Mexico, April 11-18, 2020

Spend a week with me in a gorgeous, secluded, jungle and ocean paradise. We'll have two luxurious, custom yoga practices per day, we'll start the day with meditation and end it with fabulous local dinner and sunset over the ocean. The in between times are yours to fill with rest and reading, or activities like snorkeling, hiking, or massage.

Here is why I chose Xinalani:

  • It's on the ocean and surrounded by jungle.
  • It's yoga specific. There are several different studios, the chefs know getting in touch with food from the earth is important to us, the whole vibe is about slowing down.
  • The accommodations are beautiful and have options for people who just want a place to crash as well as those who are in the mood for a splurge.
  • The logistics are easy. Xinalani  will pick you up from the airport and transport you to the pier and across Banderas Bay to the retreat. All you have to do is get to PVR by 4pm on the 11th and leave after 11am on the 18th.

My retreats are joyful, reflective opportunities for you to customize your yoga practice to suit you (which it should!) and learn things about your process that will serve you both on and off the mat! With a little time, space, and personal attention, you will tap into that beginners' mind and return home with a lighter step and an easier smile.
