We will break down the biomechanical and energetic footprints of hatha yoga postures, including standing, seated, inversions, and backbends. We will observe the different looks a pose can have in different bodies, and the different feel a pose has when you let it meet you where you are. With cues, adjustments, and a keen eye, we will help practitioners embody the pose in the most beneficial way for them as an individual.
Physical cues, the changing seasons, a peak pose- these are all great muses for a vinyasa sequence. The accessibility (read: level) of a class can change with the order of the poses! Creativity is inspiring and engaging, repetition supports the learning process, safety and effectiveness are vital. We will create a signature, all levels class that can be modified and built upon as we grow as teachers.
When in doubt, remember it's not about you! Working through nerves is something literally every yoga teacher has done. You can't go around it, you can't skip it, you just have to go through it. So we go through it together! We will practice assists, tag team sequencing, and leading discussions and workshops, all in our safe space of learning.
We will practice twice a day- a vigorous vinyasa class in the morning, and a workshop, yin, or more hatha style class in the evening. Diving into your own yoga is indispensable as a teacher. It's how we steady ourselves to prepare to hold space for others. It's also how we discover new ways to interpret poses with the body. Attuning to what is 'right action' for yourself hones your sense of compassion for others.
Yoga texts, philosophy, Ayurveda, meditation study, ethics - these explorations of yogic theory are how we develop our point of view as a yoga teacher. What do I believe, what do I know, and what do I want to share? What do I think is universal and what do I think has to be discovered by the individual? Why do I want to contribute to the living practice of yoga? What do I have to say?
What is this, and what does it do? This section is called anatomy, but the biomechanics are just as important. Collecting and sharing good information is key, but acknowledging what we don't know is just as important. We will study major muscles, joint function, connective tissue, and the nervous system. When we understand how the body works, we can sequence and adjust intuitively.
